Homeless Assistance Program

Algiers Charter believes that all students deserve the best possible education. We work with a variety of groups and organizations to eliminate educational barriers that homeless students may face. Under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, Algiers Charter works with eligible families to provide services such as:

  • Breakfast and lunch programs
  • Transportation services
  • Tutoring programs
  • ESL programs
  • After-school programs
  • Summer programs

Students and families who believe they may be eligible for services should contact the Algiers Charter’s homeless liaison, Duwanna Burse.

Ways to Help

You can help make a difference for our families in need. We are always in need of the following items:

  • Food vouchers/ Gift cards
  • School uniforms
  • School supplies
  • Children’s clothing (esp. coats, socks, & underwear)
  • Gas cards
  • Monetary donations
