Landry-Walker High School’s Brass Band Takes Home Top Prize Again

NEW ORLEANS -- Landry-Walker High School’s Brass Band, The Chosen Ones, has become a regular contender at the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation event in Congo Square. 

The team took home first place and a $10,000 check at the at the annual "Class Got Brass" music competition. Landry-Walker was among 17 schools from across the area to compete. The brass band is led by band director, Wilbert Rawlins Jr., and they have been among the top-placing bands in the competition for the last three years. Judges - including jazz musicians and artists with knowledge of traditional brass band music - scored contestants on elements like originality, improvisation, overall presentation and more. 

"Class Got Brass" is a program that supports music education in schools while promoting New Orlean's local traditions and culture.
